Marlissa makes her Carnegie Hall debut in Songs of the Slave, a 33-minute suite from Kirke Mechem’s opera John Brown. The performance includes the Masterwork Festival Chorus, soloists and orchestra, conducted by Eliza Rubenstein. This is a presentation of Manhattan Concert Productions, and will also feature the great bass-baritone Donnie Ray Albert in the role of Frederick Douglass that he created in the world premiere of the opera. Choral conductors and singers will know many of the pieces in this suite: “Blow Ye the Trumpet,” “Dan-u-el,” “Dear Husband,” and the “Speech of Frederick Douglass.”
